My work deals primarily with duality and the ambiguity between oppositional forces. Due to my experience in two very distinct and extraordinary worlds, I use such subjects as spirituality and sexuality, monasticism and drag, religious iconography and humor, content and material, creating an undefined space in which they can exist together. Narrative is a form of excess and repetition is a form of meditation.
Paraphrasing Roland Barthes…the Neutral is an ambiguous, undefined, un-dogmatic, dreamlike space before definitions occur. It is not a passive but an active and aggressive force, which must struggle against definition.
The color Blue, represents this neutral realm, but it also talks of austerity, counteracting the theatricality of the enactments.
